Southwest U.S. Monument Valley Sunrise The American Southwest is an area I keep going back to explore again and again. There is so much incredible scenery in the U.S. Southwest that it has the highest concentration of National Parks in the United States. Additionally, there are also numerous National Monuments, Scenic Areas, Wildernesses and other public lands to explore such as Monument Valley, Chaco Canyon, the Painted Desert, the Paria Wilderness and the slot canyons around Page, Arizona to name a few. The landscape here changes constantly, as weather and sky dictate. Long before Europeans came, Native American Indians lived here for thousands of years and are an integral part of the region’s history and culture. The harshness of the desert gives you great respect for their ability to survive over the centuries in such an environment.
